When I got my first full time “job” working at a custom picture framing shop in San Francisco in 1990, I had no idea how pervasive and influential an experience it would be, or that years later, I’d return to it for a couple of years more.

I had the privilege to work with interesting collectors, artists and artwork from across the entire spectrum of the art world, and in hindsight, it was through my acquaintance with artist and art dealer Jack Hanley at this time that I was re-affirmed in trying to make a professional life as an artist rather than anything else.

This picture is from the San Francisco Examiner in July of 1993, with baseball Hall of Fame legend Rollie Fingers being presented with a jersey I framed myself.

Last minute planning is happening right now with Dave, Mike Azzalini and Mike Moors of La Trappe for this afternoon’s “Butchery and Belgian Bier” event downstairs.

Dave has prepared 2 full boer goats in a variety of ways ahead of time for a full afternoon of appetizers to go with drinks as he breaks down a third whole goat live (with help from fellow SF butcher Josh Kleinsmith) live for his guests in the downstairs “speakeasy” room here at La Trappe.

Dave’s butchery demo/performance will be followed by a full sit down dinner at 5.30 and a raffle of the finished goat parcels paired together with some of La Trappe’s finest craft brewed Trappist style ales!

We are all happy to report that this event is now sold out and the details of lighting, presentations and precise scheduling are working out beautifully now for a great time starting just a few hours, pictures and video to follow!

(Read the “How to butcher a goat?” post I put up on Dave’s site yesterday!)
