Growing out of my experience creating custom picture frames dyed and stained to order, I began building custom art furniture & display pieces, designing custom finishes for other company’s projects, freelancing on other crews, and contracting the build-to-spec of complete built-in cabinetry for one of SoMa’s first cyber cafes in 1996.

This a set of custom mirrored wall panels I built for a private residence in Nob Hill, San Francisco to the designs of architect Noel Manerud in 1997.

More painted wood grain, this from a home in Del Mar, CA I worked on in 2004. Its not the greatest photo, but I’ve always had a soft spot for this job because both the general contractor and the straight painting contracto rwent on about how I couldn’t possibly pull off what I proposed, especially after I had them base paint this box for me in a nasty shade of pink ;)

After the third outsider to the jobsite asked them why they put such expensive burl veneer on such a simple cabinet, they started singing a different tune.

Kids room: circus theme painted furniture

The finish of this desk/bookcase for a kids room was designed from the colors of the room’s circus tent faux wall finishes and based on circus wagons and carousel ponies: bright colors, aged and crackled varnish, some simple gold metallic paint and simple trompe l’oeil make this functional workspace for a little boy into the other hero of the room (balancing the big tent circus mural across from it).

In all the rush of the decision to move and the finishing of San Diego projects and commitments, I forgot to post any pictures of the show of my sky paintings that continues at Joe Bedford’s Coalesce Gallery on India Street in Little Italy.
