One of many really custom picture framing projects I worked on in San Diego while associated with The Frame Maker. This job specified the moulding represented in the joined corner sample at the top of the picture, but that color was no longer available from the manufacturer.
Our solution was to order the same profile in a dark mahogany color (almost black) that was still being manufactured, and paint it into the the desired color and grain. Because these woods are soft and the scalloped profile easy to distort with sanding or stripping, faux painting the wood grain was the best solution for the client to get the frame they had chosen, even though discontinued.
