People who know me know I am passionate about architecture, architectural consistency and detail, and green architectural design and implementation. This project for the restaurant Currant enabled me to bring all of these particulars together to create a unique solution to an age old design problem: historic space to be renovated has been long stripped of original details, so how to recreate them?
Based on the original capitals that live on in the Hotel Sophia lobby, these capitals are hollow products created entirely out of Aquaresin, an awesome water based composite material that handles great in the shop and is even more awesome onsite (like in this picture) because its entirely non-toxic, non-smelly, non-flammable and easy to work with over your head and near your face without the usual ridiculous safety precautions required by traditional polyester resins used for this type of work.
