The landing page for poet Susan Scarlata is one of my favorite designs ever and takes great advantage of not being a full on business site. Rather, it is very literary in flavor and provides a context for Susan’s poetry, criticism and prose reminiscent of The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly and similar erudite periodicals.
I have always thought WordPress for writers was a natural fit, not just for presentation but also manuscript development and organization. With my own background in creative writing, it was a lot of fun to work with Susan as her digital publisher and craft a super clean site that accurately reflects her own aesthetic as well as teach her to use WordPress. We recently did a how-to webinar, with Susan in Hong Kong and me here in Pittsburgh, on backing the site up and editing the rotator script that fades in (and out) stanzas from different poems on the front page shown in this screenshot.
